Director - Ivan Serhiyenko

The Institute is a research organization widely known in Ukraine and abroad. Its staff includes famous scientists and professionals engaged in cybernetics, computer science and computerization.

About 400 researchers work at the Institute including 4 Academicians, 8 Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 54 Doctors of Sciences, and over 200 Candidates of Sciences.

Presently, the investigations carried out at the Institute address a wide range of fundamental problems covering almost every branch of information science and cybernetics. In particular, they include:
- elaboration of theory and methods of system analysis, mathematical simulation, optimization, and artificial intelligence;
- elaboration of control theory, development of various methods and means used to create intelligent control systems of different level and purpose;
- creation of computer theory, development of advanced computer engineering, artificial intelligence and information science means;
- creation of advanced general-purpose and application-oriented mathematical support systems;
- development of new information technologies and intelligent systems;
- development of fundamental and applied problems aimed at informatization of society.

The theoretical achievements allow resolving important practical problems at a high scientific level, including primarily the following:
- development of models and algorithms used to resolve optimal planning, design and operations research problems in such sectors as transport, power industry, metallurgy, communications, machine-building, construction, and control of dynamical systems;
- development of tool-based and technological means used to support construction, functioning and improvement of knowledge-based program systems oriented at solution of problems in certain subject domains (data retrieval, processing, and analysis; verification of hypotheses, decision-making, etc.);
- development of mathematical methods and program means used for medium-term forecasting of macroeconomic indices reflecting Ukraine economy development during the transition period;
- development of territorially-distributed hierarchical systems;
- assessment of the functional risks of complicated eco-technological systems, development of calculation methods for the main reliability and safety indices of a nuclear power plant;
- development of compatible series of intelligent problem-resolving machines designed to support new information technologies when analytical problems are resolved and ES shell-systems are constructed;
- creation of a new class of mass information technology carriers, i.e. interactive intelligent terminals based of application of the 'electronic combine' technology for informatization of professional activities and everyday life;
- development of problem-oriented environmental control systems;
- creation of uniform and functionally complete series of highly reliable and robust built-in technological controllers;
- development of technical means and technologies for "timer" processing and coding of information.
