The Kharkiv subway is operating since August 22, 1975. That day the underground artery of the city with the length of 10.4 km and with 8 stations conveyed its first passengers connecting 3 railway stations, 3 motor stations, dozens of industrial enterprises and also trade, sports and cultural and entertaining centers.
Today, it is hard to imagine Kharkiv without the subway. There are 30 subway stations that serve to the Kharkiv citizens and city guests. The operational length of its rails is 38 km. The scheme of the subway consists of 3 independent lines mutually crossed: Sverdlovskaya- with the length of 17.3 km, Saltovskaya- 10.4 km, Alekseevskaya- 6.2 km. There are 3 change junctions functioning.
All 26 functioning subway stations are different in their character and construction. There are stations of the pier type, some of the columnar type. The enterance is usually located in the street pedestrian subways. The length of the station platforms can fit 5-car trains.On the Alekseevskaya line there are trains that are made of the new generation cars which allow to save 20% of power.
The interior of the stations imresses with the combination of the engineering and architects concept.
