Podillya, Sanatorium, Ltd

The Sanatorium «Podillya» was opened thirty years ago in Khmelnyk, Vinnytsya Region. Today this is one of the best sanatoriums in Ukraine, which rendered health to 316 thousand persons for 30 years.
In 1934 the hydro gecological expedition arrived in Khmelnyk from Kyiv with the purpose to find a drinking-water, but the water extracted from the depth of 65 m was hard and salted. However the source has interested the research workers of the Ukrainian Scientific-Research Institute of Balneology and Physiotherapy and Institute of Geology of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. After careful researches the scientists exposed the real rich in water such as emanation of radium (radon), coal acid, nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, manganese, hydrogen carbonate, chlorine, iodine, bromine, tracks of cobalt, ammonia salt, resinous substances and other components and microelements. By mineral and gas composition the water of Khmelnyk is radon, acidulous and hydrocarbonate-chloride-calcium-sodium mineral with high containing of manganese. The scientists of the Institute of Balneology and Physiotherapy developed the first recommendations for medical treatment by radon water. Soon (in 1938) the district of bedding of waters was acknowledged by the resort locality and the small hydropathic establishment was opened, but in the war-time it was robbed and destroyed.
The health-resort outlived the second birth in 1944. However the building of the real sanatorium began in 1968, and on April 22, 1973 the corps of interkolkhoz sanatorium for 250 places adopted the first patients.
In August, 1975 another corps for 250 places was opened; the dining-room was built in 1976, as well as bath separation in 1978, where one wing for 26 baths, office for 4-chamber baths with two options, offices of gynecological irrigations for four arm-chairs, swimming-pool for underwater drawing out of spine, two swimming-pools of underwater shower-massage and hall of hydropathy functioned. Having built the outpatient department in 1980, the offices from corps and bath separation were moved there. The third corps for 500 places was built also, and the peat therapeutic mud-baths was commissioned in 1987.
The management of the sanatorium cared of its workers, therefore simultaneously with development of the sanatorium the dwelling-house for 99 apartments for employees and domestic dormitory were put into service.
The health-resort worked by full capacity till 1996. Then the number of holiday-makers has sharply decreased. However the management of the sanatorium put great efforts with purpose to rescue the pearl of Podillya. In 1999 the license for activity was obtained and in 2000 the sanatorium got the higher category of accreditation. The life gradually began to be better.
For establishing diagnosis and estimation of efficiency of medical process the clinical, biochemical and immunological laboratory researches are conducted in the sanatorium. Since 1997 the office of ultrasonic diagnostics functions. Especially a lot of new methods of medical treatment and examination of patients were introduced for the last time such as suprachoroid laser-magnetic irradiation of blood, ultrasonic inspection of gall-bladder and others.
The radon is the basic medical factor of resort. Today about 30 mining holes operate in Khmelnyk. The radon baths are prescribed depending on the disease and state of patient. Due to the ionizing radiation they positively influence on nervous system, promote the improvement of cardiac activity, decrease pain syndrome and normalize sleep. They are widely applied at gynaecological diseases, some diseases of skin and treatment of joints. The office of radio emanatorium, the unique in Ukraine, works in the separation, where dry radon baths are offered. Except for procedures with radon water the medical showers, contrasting, coniferous, pearl and turpentine baths are offered to the patients.
The peat hospital for 22 mud-cure beds with electric heating functions in the sanatorium as well as offices of electric galvanic mud-cure and gynaecological mud tampons (the peat is supplied from the Viytovetskiy Deposit). More than 15 microelements (lead, iodine, copper, beryllium and others) are in the structure of peat mud, organic acids and biologically active organic components. The peat appliques are the basic type of medical treatment.
The office of dry carbon dioxide baths functions in the separation also. There is the office of acupuncture and manual therapy. Except for that, the self-supporting offices function in the sanatorium such as hydro column lasertherapy, hydropathies, massage and solarium. The services of prosthodontic treatment are provided.
The rational feed has not less value. The dining-room for 610 places works in the health-resort. The guests of the Sanatorium «Podillya» are served by highly skilled cooks, dietary nurses and polite waiters. There is a business-hall in the dining-room.
The sleep has important value. To services of holiday-makers there are four comfortable sleeping corps with single and double rooms and the Luxe rooms.
The Sanatorium «Podillya» is the collective of highly skilled workers: 36 doctors, including two deserved doctors of Ukraine, 83 workers of secondary and 125 junior medical personnel.
Today the Sanatorium is headed by Yuriy Leshchuk uniting people for the sake of that they give love and care to every patient.
