Kharkov College of Mechanical Engineering is a state higher education institution that has achieved a I-II accreditation level in training for degrees of Bachelor and Junior Specialist awarded by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. Based on licenses and accredited certificates, the College admits students to the following specialties:
Economics and entrepreneurship:
- Economics of business;
- Accounting;
Mechanical engineering:
- Material processing by machines and automatic lines;
- Servicing motor vehicles of high traficability;
- Engine manufacturing;
Metallurgy:
- Thermal processing of metals;
Power engineering:
- Design and manufacturing of turbine plants;
Electrical engineering:
- Assembling and operation of electrical machines in civil engineering;
Metrology and measuring technology:
- Mechanical measurements;
Welding:
- Welding fabrication.
The training is provided in both full-time and correspondence (remote) forms and funded from the state budget as well as by juridical and natural persons.
With the aim of providing high mobility to its graduates under current difficult conditions of the labour market, the College offers its student an opportunity of obtaining an additional qualification of turner, motor mechanic, electrician, heat-treater and electric and gas welder.
Students have an option of qualifying for the following specialties: auditor, financial controller, market surveyor, manager in human resources and manufacturing, automobile repair mechanic, specialist in controlling and measuring devices, tax officer, commodity expert, etc. The study course can be tailored to career objectives of each particular student. Preparation courses for prospective students, advanced courses of Ukrainian and foreign languages, mathematics and information technology are available at the College.
The College has 2,500 students, 1,500 of which are on full-time and 1,000 on correspondence (remote) study programme.
Every year approximately 650 students graduate from the College. Special service created in the College ensures that all the graduates get employed by esteemed companies of the city and adjacent regions. The best graduates may continue their education by joining accelerated programmes at universities and academies for obtaining degrees of Master or Specialist. The College graduates have been very successful in leading managing positions in various sectors of economics and business and they also lead the way in science, service sector and government institutions.
The College is an educational and training basis for the Ukrainian Academy of Engineering and Pedagogy, it is a member of six educational and scientifical networks combining universities and academies of Kharkov.
Kharkov College of Mechanical Engineering plays important part in improving higher education in Ukraine and the Kharkov region. The College carries out work on developing standards for higher education in mechanical engineering and is a leading Ukrainian institution in systematic approach to correspondence educational programmes, computerisation of educational process and other directions in higher education.
The College has been successful in implementing innovative pedagogical techniques and systematic organisational approaches. Main results of this innovative activity can be summarised as follows:
- Realisation of the programme aimed at improving organisational structure of educational process.
- Development and implementation of a rating system of valuation of students' achievements.
- Development and successful practical implementation of new methods in compilation and application of didactic texts.
- Development and realisation of a complex programme providing students with support in application of information technology at all stages of their study.
- Development of theoretical foundations and practical recommendations for improving efficiency of students' self-education.
- Realisation of the programme aimed at improving the quality of scientific research at the College.
- Significant modification of the contents, structure and methods of the scientific and creative activity of the students.
- Implementation of a new system for developing high adaptivity of College graduates to variable conditions of the market economy.
The College structure includes 4 centres for education and consultations (Kupiansk, Lozovaya and Pervomaysk in the Kharkov region, and Pervomaysk in the Nikolaev region), 5 departments incorporating 12 chairs, a separate department of preliminary student training, two student hostels, and 3 workshops.
College fixed assets include three separate groups of buildings where student training is carried out. Apart from that, two full-size gyms are used for physical education. The College students have two assembly halls, hostels, two canteens and a buffet. They have an option to attend regular exercises in one of 12 sports under guidance of our sports instructors and take part in various entertainment events organised by the College staff and students.
Pedagogical work in the College is carried out by 130 professionals of high calibre. Majority of them are of the Highest and First Categories and can boast of having been authors to new training programmes and electronic training resources. Among the lecturers and instructors are Honourable Lecturers and laureates of Ukrainian and regional prizes. This was a crucial factor in the College being given a privilege to create its own training plans and programmes. The training process in the College is based on advance modern methods and organisational approaches which facilitates improving the quality of student training and implementation of the following basic principles accepted by the world's leading pedagogical community:
- humanisation of society, developing in students patriotism and responsibility for their country;
- expanding usage of information technology in educational process and solid fundamental training;
- making students ready to future creative approach to work via involving them in student scientific societies organised at the College departments and chairs;
- broad introduction of advanced training techniques such as participating in real industrial projects, business games, correspondence courses (remote training), modern approach to organisation of students' self-study and its control;
- developing high adaptivity of students to requirements of the labour market in modern industrial environment.
The College students are provided with state funded studentships. Students demonstrating the best progress may be awarded special studentships from the President of Ukraine, the Supreme Council of Ukraine, regional state administration, or personal studentship of the director of the College. The best students may also be awarded paid trips to most spectacular historical and cultural places of the country. As an additional award for exceptional students, an honour of having their photo taken against the College banner is offered.
On the eve of the 350th anniversary of Kharkov, the College represents an active highly dynamic system that has positive outlook for the future and whose continuing activity is demanded and appreciated by society.
