The Institute was founded in 1964 by a famous scientist aca-demician, Honoured Science Worker, professor Lev Ivanovich Medved, and is widely known in the world as ECOHYNTOX.
In Ukraine L.I.Medved's Institute of ecohygiene and toxicology - ECOHYNTOX has become the leading science and technical organization in hygiene, toxicology, ecology, professional and ecologically dependent pathology.

On the basis of the Institute there works problems commission of the Ministry of Health and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine "Hygiene and Toxicology" and many other scientific and expert organizations.
The Institute takes an active part in the activity of the international medical and scientific association.
The work of the Permanent Committee of the WHO European Regional Committee.

Nowadays the research and expert activity of ECOHYNTOX is a strict system of complex toxicological, hygienic chemico-analytical and clinical investigations aimed at studying varied interactions of human organism with the environment and is carried out in the following directions:
- determination of mechanisms for pathologic action of harmful chemical factors in the environment on human health, their danger degree and risk assessment;
- preparing projects for legislative and normative acts in public health;
- sanitary - hygienic examination and working out indices, normative values, which guarantee safety in manufacture and utilization of home and foreign production;
- working out scientific grounds for informatization of hygienic and toxicological investigations, sanitary - hygienic examination, state sanitary - epidemiological supervision;
- provision of medical care and health monitoring of persons, subjected to harmful effect of chemical factors.
The results of the Institute research working up are of great theoretical importance and underlie the creation of system for preventive measures on safe use of pesticides, agrochemicals, polymeric and plastic materials.

The Institute is attested and accredited by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for:

- hygienic reglamentation of pesticides and agrochemicals, polymeric and synthetic materials, chemicals, foodstuffs and other accompanying goods, working out and approval of toxicologic - hygienic passport;
- carrying out sanitary - hygienic examination, toxicologic -hygienic and medico - biological investigations, grounds for conclusions concerning possibilities of importation, utilization and registration in Ukraine:
- of pesticides and agrochemicals;
- polymeric and synthetic materials and their goods;
- foodstuffs and raw materials, accompanying materials, technologies and equipment for food industry;
- building materials;
- furniture;
- varnishes and paints, glue compositions;
- medical purpose articles and personal hygiene means;
- goods for children;
- domestic chemistry means and perfumery - cosmetic production;

At the Institute there is functioning the centre for sanitary - hygienic examination and certification tests of foodstuffs, materials and substances used in food industry (CECT), accredited by the Ministry of Health and State standard of Ukraine for technical competence and independence.
Medical aid to people having contact with chemicals is provided by Ecohyntox clinic, which has the following structural subdivisions:
- consultative polyclinic;
- laboratory - diagnostic department;
- hospital with allergologic, neurologic, cardiologic and gastro-enterologic departments;
- scientific department for professional and ecologically dependent patholody;
- scientific department for dietology, medical and special nutrition.

Cooperation forms and services
The Institute runs scientific-research, expert toxical-hygienic, sanitary - microbiological and arbitration investigations under contracts (agreements) with home and foreign firms, enterprises, organizations.
The subjects of contracts are as follows:
- sanitary - hygienic examination of home and foreign production, normative documents as to provide safety far health;
- carrying out toxicologic-hygienic and sanitary - chemical investigations;
- certification tests;
- clinical and pre-clinical tests;
- medical aid, clinical examination, work conditions assessment.

Modern equipment permits to run investigations on the level of international standards corresponding to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) claims.
Professional experience and high qualification of research workers and clinical physicians, experts in hygiene, toxicology, analytical chemistry, profpathology and dietology guarantee qualitative, timely, modern level carrying out of scientific and expert investigations, clinical tests and medical aid provision.
