In 1931 in Askaniya-Nova on the base of zootechnical, phitotechnical, meteorological experimental stations reorganization, by propose of famous scientific academician M.F. Ivanov was founded The institute of agricultural hybridization and aclimatization of animals.

In May 1956 Institute was renamed in M.F.Ivanov Ukrainian scientific and research institute of cattle-breeding of steppe regions "Askaniya-Nova".

Scope of activity:
- improvement of existing and derivation of new species, types and lines of sheep, cattle, pigs;
- design and improvement of wool and mutton production technology, problem-solving of animal aclimatization and hybridization;
- introduction and aclimatization of wood and bushes secies for planting of greenery and protective afforestation.

The institute includes 16 scientific subdivisions.
