Single museum in Ukraine telling about history of development of military business in Ukraine beginning from the ancient times till today is placed at Kriposny lane, next to the glorified Works «Arsenal» and Central Building of Officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Central Museum of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was founded by the Ministry of Defense in October, 1995 and already in September, 1996 it got the status of the central and main museum in the system of military-museum business in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and first opened the doors for visitors on June 14, 1998.
The constantly operating exposition of the museum tells about general development of military business in Ukraine on the way of its historical development. The exposition gradually shows military history of the Cimmerian-Scythian-Sarmat period, every day national liberation fight of the Cossacks time, military detachments in Ukraine during XIX–XX centuries and activity of the Armed Forces of Independent Ukraine.
The Central Museum of the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to the international projects of museum cooperation is well-known abroad. It actively co-operates with the British Corps of Experts in Ukraine, Ukrainian Diaspora in the USA and Canada; Royal Museum of Army and Military History of the Belgium Kingdom, Central Museum of the Armed Forces of Russian Federation and exchanges by experience in organization of work of military museums.
The Central Museum of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is the founder of magazines: «Military history almanac», collection «Military museum» and books publisher.
They publish research works about military history processes taken place in Ukraine, articles from Ukrainian vexilology, uniformistics, emblematics, faleristics in the Military history almanac etc. They also offer reviews of museum and file collections, publish military history documents, memories of participants of the military events.
Collection «Military museum» contains normative-legal acts regulating activity of museum establishments in Ukraine in details, in particular military. Also there are such sections in the collection as «Pages of history», «Book review» and «From experience of operation of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of Ukraine». The information-methodical collection «Military museum» is necessary not only for today workers of museum establishments; it will be useful for future historians, when those will study organization of museum business.
The Central Museum of the Armed Forces of Ukraine comprises three branches: Museum of the Strategic Missile Forces (Pervomaysk), Navy Museum Complex «Balaklava» (Sevastopol) and Volyn Regional Museum of the Ukrainian Army and Military Equipment (Lutsk).
