The Port of Reni is a large transport center on the Danube River(Ukraine), in which operation of sea, river, railway and motor transport is closely interlaced.
Founded in December 1816. Situated on a navigable part of the Danube between 66,7 and 69,3 miles at a 63 miles length from the mouth. Geographical position of the port is defined by the bearings : Latitude – 45 26 N , Longitude – 28 18 E.
Navigation in the port is year-round. Communication with the Black Sea is effected via the channel Sulina. The berthing depths make it possible to handle all the vessels whose draughts allow to pass the limiting section – the Sulina Canal.
The Port of Reni performs transshipment, storage and transportation of any cargoes ( more then 100 denominations). It consists of 3 cargo handling complexes and a ferry handling complex There are 39 specialized berths available for handling general, liquid, timber, heavy and bulky cargoes, containerized and packaged cargoes, cargoes in bulk, wheeled vehicles and passenger vessels.
Cargo transshipment is performed in the following directions : from/to Ukraine and CIS countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Czechia and Slovakia), to/from Central Europe countries (Austria, Germany and others), also to/from the ports of the Black, the Mediterranean and the Red Seas, the Indian and the Pacific Oceans.
The Port of Reni has at its disposal gantry cranes of 5 to 40 tons capacity, floating cranes of 5 to 100 tons capacity, autocranes of 6 to 50 tons capacity, a bridge crane, which allows to handle heavy lifts up to 250 tons each, motor and electric lifts trucks of 1,5 to 10 tons capacity, specialized tractors, roll-trailers, withstanding all weather conditions grain pneumatic suction loader, wagon unloading machines.
Storage of cargoes in the port is provided by warehouses and large sheds of storage capacity 30 thousand m and 125 thousand m accordingly.
Additional Services : forwarding operations, fresh water and fuel oil bunkering of vessels, cleaning ship’s compartment, ship’s general supplies, repairs to ships, international telephone, telex and fax communication.
Services are performed round the clock according to agreed terms.
Since 1993 a ferry complex has been functioning in the Port of Reni (the only ferry complex of the Ukrainian ports on the Danube), which ensures servicing Ro-Ro vessels in river and sea directions, and also through transshipment of large lorries according to the “river-sea” scheme. The regular ferry line : Reni (Ukraine) – Rousse (Bulgaria) – (without passing the most profitable way for delivering goods from the Baltic ones through Moldavian and Romanian territories). The length of the way by the Danube : Reni – Rousse - 36 hours, Rousse – Reni - 24 hours.
Handling of the ferries is fulfilled during twenty four hours and eliminates delays and demurrage. The parking area (12 thousand m ) is guarded and it guaranties perfect security of the drivers and safe keeping of cargoes. We offer the following services : declaration of cargoes, fumigation of the infected cargoes, transshipment (loading / unloading) and forwarding services in case drivers order them, frontier – customs consultations, technical aids, duty-free shop.
On 23.03.2000 Free Economic Zone “Reni” Law of Ukraine came into effect. It has special preferential economic taxation regime for the period of 30 years on the territory of Merchant Seaport Reni having the total area – 94,36 hectares.
A number of measures to improve the existing transshipment capacities and to introduce the new ones are being realized in the port with the purpose to improve granted services and to meet the demands concerning cargo transshipments in particular :
- putting into operation an additional transshipment terminal for transshipment of export grain connected with the grain-elevator;
- transshipment of heavy lorries in mixed (river-sea) directions;
- reconstruction of tanker terminal;
- complex of closed, type for transshipment of dry cargoes in bulk (mineral fertilizers) with the possible intermediate storage in silo;
- complex of closed type for transshipment of cement in bulk with intermediate silo;
- installation for breaking up mixing coals of different fractions and characteristics with final concentration of their parameter to make them good to be used for the power stations of the Danube Countries;
- creation of container terminal;
- improvement of the complex for transshipment of wine in bulk;
- improvement of the complex for transshipment of animals;
- reconstruction and expansion of covered storage areas.
The agreement with General Forwarder Moldova railway was concluded to use flexible competitive rates which allow to secure stable goods traffic.
