Based on Ukrainian Railway Infrastructure

Closed Joint Stock Company "Inter-Telekom" was founded in April 1995 in order to create up-to-date digital transmission systems and provide wide spectrum of high quality telecommunications services on the territory of Ukraine. The founders of JSC "Inter-Telekom" are JSC "Inter-Contact" and "Inter-Contact" Ltd. Created in 1993 these companies today are some of the biggest freight companies in the Ukrainian railways with the more than 100 millions of USD annual turnover.

As to the field of activity of JSC "Inter-Telekom", it is development, construction and use of fibre-optic cable communication networks, exploiting Ukrainian railway infrastructure, provision of access to traffic, using modern cable and radio devices, rendering of high quality telecom services to end users.

JSC "Inter-Telekom" together with the specialists of Ukrainian Railway performs construction and installation of telecom structures along Ukrainian Railways and plans to provide some part of traffic for Railway needs. Use of an existing infrastructure of Ukrainian railroads allows to increase the reliability of the connection, simplifies the process of technical operation, and also enables to use an existing system of protection of the railway.

Upon request of JSC "Inter-Telekom", Ukrainian Planning Institute "Giprosvyaz" has made the feasibility study for construction of fiber-optical lines along Railway as a part of Unified National Telecommunications System of Ukraine. Based on this feasibility study, JSC "Inter-Telekom" specialists have developed the Program for integration of fiber-optical transport network using SDH equipment. This Program is being implemented since 1998.

According to the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine #1805 dated November 16th, 1998 "Regarding actions on creation of Unified National Telecommunications System", JSC "Inter-Telekom" is authorised with the help of Ukrainian Railway to construct and put into operation Kiev Ring FOL, backbone FOLs Lvov-Uzhgorod and Odessa-Vinnitsa. The value of these lines is, that they are a part of Unified National Telecommunications System of Ukraine and a part of international projects TEL/TAE, ITUR, BSFOCS. For today only JSC "Inter-Telekom" as a non-state operator has a right to transmit national traffic through it's own network.

Construction of JSC "Inter-Telekom" network shall be done in the following phases:

- First Phase - Construction of most perspective FOLs that will make T-structure

- Second Phase - Widening of the network in directions highlighted in the "General Scheme of Development of the Primary Network of Ukraine up to 2010 year"

- Third Phase - Construction of backbone FOLs that will make ring structures together with 1-2 phase FOLs

In frame of realisation of this Program, presently, one FOLs Kiev-Fastov (64 km) has been put into operation, and line-cable structures has been made on Kiev Ring FOL (about 78 km).

Next phases of construction shall be implemented depending on development priorities of Unified National Telecommunications System of Ukraine.
