Ukrainian Research Institute of Metals (UkrNIImet) founded in 1928, is a leading Ukrainian research institute in the following fields:
- steel blank continuous casting;
- continuous casting of nonferrous metals;
- production of rolled blanks;
- production of merchant rolled shapes;
- production of structural shapes and rolled sections;
- production of high readiness shapes;
- production of cold-rolled (bent) sections;
- production of grinding bodies;
- production of hardware;
- finishing of rolled products;
- production of railway rails and rail metal;
- production of rolls for cold and hot rolling.

UkrNIImet does research in the field of technological provision of reconstruction and modernization of steel-smelting, steel-casting and steel-rolling mills, as well as in the field of development of optimal multi-variant ways of their reconstruction.

A great number of new rolling mills have been developed, constructed and put into operation in Russia, Ukraine and other countries (Bulgaria, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, etc.), using the new technologies and equipment developed by the institute, such as:
- universal beam mill of Nizhny Tagil integrated iron-and-steel works (city of Nizhny Tagil, Russia);
- mill 450 of West-Siberia integrated iron-and-steel works (city of Novokuznetsk, Russia);
- mill 250 of Nizhneserginsky steel works (town of Nizhny Sergy, Sverdlovsk region, Russia);
- mill 550-2 of Petrovsky steel works (city of Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine) and other mills, including beam, heavy-section, medium-section, light-section, wire and many other kinds of mills.

The institute offers for acquiring the following technological developments:
1. CONTINUOUS CASTING.
1.1. Technology for casting of carbon and alloyed steels on horizontal and radial casting ma-chines, in particular bars with rectangular cross-sections having ratio of sides up to 6 and thickness of 100-350 mm;
1.2. Technology for production of round alloyed steel bars for electrodes from 80 to 200 mm in diameter on horizontal casting machines.
1.3. Technology and equipment for horizontal continuous casting of solid as well as hollow copper and copper-alloyed bars having various cross-sections.
2. PRODUCTION OF ROLLED SHAPES.
2.1. Technology for rolling shapes on roughing and continuous bar-and-billet mills;
2.2. Technology for production of merchant and special rolled shapes (I-shaped bars, chan-nels, angles, round steel, etc.) having high accuracy of dimensions, on heavy-section, medium-section, light-section and wire mills.
2.3. Technology for rolling rails on rail and structural steel mills.
2.4. Technology for rolling periodical shapes (racks, leaf springs, etc.);
2.5. Technology for production of milling (grinding) bodies.
2.6. Technology for production of cold-rolled (bent) sections.
2.7. Systems of automated roll pass designing and automation of technological processes for roll shapes production. Automated work place of a calibrator (a worker making roll passes) in a rolling shop.
3. FINISHING OF ROLLED PRODUCTS.
3.1. Technology and equipment for speeded cooling and hardening of rolled products.
3.2. Technology for straightening and cutting of rolled products.
3.3. Technology and equipment for manufacturing and repairing of disks of metallurgical saws.
3.4. Technology and equipment for sorting, packing and binding of rolled products.
3.5. Technology and equipment for non-destructive testing of rolled products, specifically rails.
4. ROLLS FOR HOT AND COLD ROLLING.
4.1. Technology and equipment for centrifugal casting of rolls and roll sleeves.
4.2. Technology and equipment for surface melt-fusing and micro-plasma hardening of rolls.
