The city of Sevastopol has advantageous geographical position (12 countries are situated not farther than 600 km from it, short way to Turkey), perfect natural environment (deep, non-freezing bays, protected from winds which are characteristic of the region, all year round navigation), it also has a well developed ship receipt and repair infrastructure, huge potential on trade development and cargo processing.

Sevastopol is one of the famous cities of the world, it was founded in 1783 as a naval fortress and base at the southern borders of Russia, at the crossroads of Muslim and Christian worlds, Europe and Asia. Now Sevastopol enjoys a merited place among biggest ports of the Black Sea and Mediterranean. Rich historical heritage, beauty of natural bays, originality of the city and suburbs always attracted tourists from all over the world. Certain parts of the city history are closely connected with Great Britain, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Turkey etc. Over 2 thousand monuments in the city prove deep respect for noble ancestors.

The city as a restricted area during Soviet rule, was opened in 1993 and since then it is open for international passenger and cargo shipping. That provides the city with the opportunity to develop as a cargo port (including transit shipping) and to receipt foreign tourist and cruise liners as well.

The port carries out loading-unloading works, cargo shipping and passenger conveyance with sea and motor transport, receipt of passenger and cargo ships, haulage, trans-shipment of fuel- energy resources, hull and mechanism repair, transport and forwarding services. Besides the port carries out state supervision for navigation safety, pilot assistance, registers ships and issues ship, qualification and other documents connected with navigation.

The port provides the following services:
- hull and mechanism repair;
- ship bunkerage with fuel and water;
- receipt of bilgeway and faecal water;
- communication at radio channels (short medium waves);
- international phone, telegraph, telex and fax communications.

The port has passenger berths in the city downtown, re-loading complex in the eastern part of the Sevastopol bay - Maly Inkerman, in the mouth of the Chernaya river, which is equipped with railway lines and motor ways. It has equipment for processing general and mineral-construction cargo, hoisting-transport and engineering equipment, cargo gripping devices, prepared and equipped warehouse premises.

One of the perspective directions for the port is development of the re-loading complex, increase of its attractiveness for consignors. Dredging will enable to receipt ships with immersion over 8.5 m when loaded. It will also enable to form ship consignment up to 10 000 tons which is the most preferable for customers when making contracts for processing foreign-trade general cargo.

Further the port will develop as an international. Substantially, the Sevastopol Sea Trade Port connects its perspectives with developing international cruise business, including foreign one. The port is anxious to advertise travel opportunities of Sevastopol in cooperation with interested travel companies. The port has joined Black and Azov Sea Ports Association (BASPA), participates in various exhibitions, conferences, advetising its possibilities and attracting business partners (namely, in Genoa in September 2000, in Hamburg in 2001 etc.).
