Concern RAYSKIY UGOLOK is the owner of one of the largest book markets in Ukraine playing today a significant role in the Ukrainian book wholesale market and being the largest in Kharkov place for retail sales of books. The market with an area of 5000 sq.m. has a fully developed infrastructure: market administration office, warehousing facilities, guarded parking lot, office premises to let, a restaurant with an open-air site, several snack bars. Within the scope of the book market activities are the city book trade fairs which are organized at the Kharkov central square.
Concern RAYSKIY UGOLOK is an organizer of the "Book World" - an international book festival which is the greatest in Eastern Ukraine exposition of this type. Each festival (they were held in 1999 and 2000) gathered over 200 participants from Ukraine, former Soviet Union and other foreign countries and attracted over 200 000 visitors and buyers.
In 1999 Concern RAYSKIY UGOLOK took the lead in organization and along with some prominent persons of public and cultural life in Ukraine became a founder of the Kharkov regional charity fund "Book for People". Aims and targets of the Fund are promotion and support for different programs targeted at improvement of the cultural standards of the nation. And though many of the Fund programs are directly connected with the book, the book itself serves a symbol of culture, the source and storage of its treasures.
In the Concern activity great attention is paid to the information technologies. Recently a Web site for the culture of Ukraine was created (www.culture.kharkiv.org) and a periodical is in progress which would deal with books, printed matter business in Ukraine and information culture of the society.
The Concern contributes much to improvement of the nearby territory: a large guarded parking lot and automobile service station have been organized and a comfortable hotel is planned to be built in the same district.
Efforts and achievements of Concern RAYSKIY UGOLOK were noticed and appreciated: in January 2000 Vladimir Polozkov, President of the Concern, was awarded the title of the Businessman of Ukraine.
