Ukrainian Research and Design Institute of Chemical Machine-Building, Public Joint-Stock Company

Founded in 1930, the "Ukrainian Research and Design Institute of Chemical Machine-Building", Public Joint-Stock Company has since contributed considerably to the progress of chemical machinery and is at present a leading research and design establishment in this field.

The fact that the seat of the institute is Kharkiv, a major scientific, industrial and cultural center of Ukraine, is conducive to the instituted activities.

Up-to-date laboratory and experimental facilities together with highly-skilled and experienced research and engineering personnel enable the institute to solve complex scientific and technical problems.

For years, the institute has been involved in the development of novel types of diversified equipment for the chemical, petrochemical, and paper-and - pulp industries.

Devices developed:
- evaporators of all types and units on their basis, submerged burning evaporators;
- plate and tube - type heat exchangers and units on their basis;
- column-type equipment for the processes of rectification, absorption and desorption, complete units with column and heat-exchange apparatus;
- apparatus for ultra filtration and reverse osmoses;
- apparatus for crystallization from solutions and complete units with crystallizators, heat-exchange apparatus, centrifuges and filters;
- plastic heat exchangers.

Chemical production machinery developed:
- continued and periodical filtrating centrifuges with vibration discharge of cake;
- chamber and frame filter-presses with horizontal and vertical plates, cartridge-type filters;
- rotor-type apparatus for heat-sensitive products including apparatus for molecular distillation;
- drives: motorized speed reducers, motorized speed variators, hermetic magnetic drives.

Depending on the type of order, the institute provides the following services:
- examination of input data, necessary calculations and recommendation to use standard equipment providing an address of the plant where the order may be placed;
- in case of lack of initial data we fulfill experimental investigation on our pilot installations and recommend appropriate standard equipment for use;
- if standard equipment does not satisfy customer’s demands the institute performs comprehensive research and development works, passes the documentation to the customer and the plant-manufacture with subsequent author supervision of manufacturing, technical assistance during installation and industrial training of maintenance staff;
- if new equipment can be manufactured in the experimental workshop the institute produces and supplies equipment in a set;
- technical assistance in repairing and modernization of equipment, especially boiler equipment;
- elaboration of novel, up-to-date methods of computing the strength of machine or apparatus elements;
- selection of new types of materials and methods for joining these materials;
- development of new coatings and methods of their application.

Together with the Kharkiv Polytechnic University, the Institute trains engineers in the speciality “Machines and Equipment for Chemical Production Processes”.
