Priazovskiy State Technical University (PSTU) was founded in November 1930 (before 23 November 1993 – Mariupol Metallurgical Institute).

Main areas of research:
- Development of theoretical and technological basis of physicochemical processes in iron- and steelmaking;
- Theoretical and experimental investigation of metal working processes aimed at creation of energy conservation technologies, improvement of metal products quality and materials saving;
- Increasing of reliability, durability and serviceability of machine units and parts and of heavy industry equipment;
- Development of energy and resource saving technologies, environment-friendly technologies;
- Development of efficient information technologies, control tools, complex automation and communication systems;
- Enhancement of new economic and financial relations under market conditions;
- Social and political processes in Ukraine: reality and perspective
