Luhansk Taras Shevchenko State University today is a large educational and scientific complex which includes Institute of Business and Economy, the Institute of Culture and Arts, Institute of Physical Education and Sports, Foreign Languages Faculty, History Faculty, Psychology and Pedagogy Faculty, Natural Science and Geography Faculty, Ukrainian Philology Faculty, Preparatory Training Faculty. Rovenki, Starobilsk, Stakhanov and Lisichansk Affiliates (pedagogical colleges), 39 Departments, the Lyceum, the specialized Lyceum, educational complex (elementary school, gymnasium) "Children Academy", Music School for gifted children, Alushta Educational Center, the Center of Innovative Teaching Technologies, Hrynchenko Studies Institute, Ukrainian-Canadian Center "Renaissance".

11,000 students are currently enrolled in full-time, part-time and the advanced form of education at the University.
500 teachers, 33 Doctors of Sciences, and 227 Candidates of Sciences, 12 members of the Academy of Ukraine and other foreign countries, assistant professors work at the University and develop new teaching, research and management techniques.

The University Campus consists of seven educational buildings, five on-campus dormitories, a sports center; a vivarium, workshops and studios; field-study camp and bio-station; zoology, geology, anatomy and history-archeology museums, astronomy observatory; winter botanical garden; outside park-museum of ancient stone sculptures, a hair-dressing salon, a library with the stock, consisting of more than 600.000 items, a publishing house, informational and Internet center, a consumer service center, health center(100 placements), a canteen, 2 cafes, a disco club, a pharmacy and a convenient store.

The University has a publishing center, which issues scientific articles collection "Visnyk", literature almanac "Bakhmuts'ky Shljakh", national science and methodology journal "Osvita Donbasu", monthly University newsletter "Novy Pohljad".

The University provides "junior specialist", bakalavr", "specialist" and "magistr" courses in 70 specialties, such as Pedagogical Education, Philology, History, Sociology, Psychology, Culture and Arts, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Education and Sports, Ecology, Applied Mathematics, Management, Economics and Entrepreneurship, Trade and Commerce Studies.

Qualification is received in such specialties: Culture and Arts Studies, Choreography, Cinema and TV-art, Music Art, Music Pedagogy, Decorative Applied Art, Hair Design, Management of Organisations, Finance, Trade and Commercial Activity, Marketing, Graphic, Clothes, Advertising Design, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Handicraft, Professional Education, Physical Education, Physical Rehabilitation, Olympic and professional sport, History and Law, Social Pedagogy, Social Work, Sociology and Public Relations, Pre-school Education, Speech Defects Studies, Psychology, Primary Education, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Environment Studies, Landscape Design, Tourism; Ukrainian language and Literature Studies, Literary Creativity, Documentary Studies, Public Relations Management, Foreign languages and Foreign Literature, Russian, English, German, French, Spanish languages, Translation (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish, Hebrew languages); Pedagogy of Higher Education, Management of Educational establishment.

The University provides graduate, post-graduate and doctoral courses. There is a specialized scientific board dealing with dissertations and awarding PhD degrees in 4 pedagogical specialties.

The main topics of research at the University are as follows:
- international relations and extending Ukraine's involvement in the global community;
- methods of improving of intellectual development of a person;
- development of educational techniques on the basis of modern concepts of teachers' training;
- problems of development of language and culture: present-day situation and prospects;
- studying the role of European languages as means of interchange and cognitive evaluation;
- synthesis of new organic pharmacological compounds by means of multi-stage heterocycling;
- the nature of the Donbas region and the problems involved in the expedient and proper use of its resources;
- social, cultural and medical aspects of the phenomenology of children and youth health, Olympic and professional sports.

22 scientific laboratories carry on their work , prominent Ukrainian scientific schools headed by professors Galyna. P. Shevchenko, Helly V. Lunina, Oleh P. Fisunenko, Lara M. Sinelnikova, Viktor D. Uzhenko, Serhiy Ya. Kharchenko, Volodymyr D. Diachenko, Oleksandr A. Galych, Mykola I. Konoplya, Mykhailo S. Buryan, Vitaliy M. Usenko are fruitfully functioning so far.

Annually the scientists of the University write more than 700 articles, publish 10-15 monographs, up to 50 manuals, receive 5-8 patents of inventions, participate in national and international conferences and seminars, organize 4-5 international and national forums.
Every year the University professors defend 2-3 Doctorate's and 15-20 Candidate's theses. 8-12 students become prize-winners in all-Ukrainian scientific competitions and contests.

International cooperation

The important trend of the international activity is cooperation with foreign scientific institutions, universities, associations and other organizations in the fields of science, education and art.

Foreign students' admission
Foreign citizens have opportunity to receive Bachelor or Master diploma in different qualifications; and learn or master Russian/Ukrainian languages in order to enter other higher educational institutions in Ukraine or CIS countries.
The received diplomas are legalized in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The students from Russia, China, Palestine, Syria, Israel, Jordan, Iran, Pakistan, Sudan, India study in the University now.

The University leads scientific, cultural and educational cooperation activity with scientific institutions, universities, associations and other international organizations of USA, Germany, France, UK, Denmark, China, Hungary, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Poland, Russia, etc.

The University students have incalculable possibilities for scientific and academic as well as civic and social research. They can reveal their creative skills in social activities and sports area. The Students' Parliament, Students' Culture Club, the Cheerleaders Club and around 30 sports organizations function for these purposes.

The Physical Education classes take place in the University's gyms as well as rented sports complexes: "Spartak" and "Yunost" swimming pools, track and fields stadium "Dynamo" and "Avantgard" stadium. Two University sports teams - male handball team "Burevestnik" and female volleyball team "Peduniversitet-Iskra-2000" play in National Championship Leagues.
