Director - Andrey A. Sibirny, doctor of science, prof.
Istitute of Cell Biology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, was established on the basis of the Division of Cell Regulatory Systems of O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The corresponding Decree "On the establishment of the Institute of Cell Biology in Lviv" of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine #1123, July 14, 2000 was signed by Prime Minister Viktor Yushchenko. Professor Andriy Sibirny was nominated by the President of NAS of Ukraine as the first Director of the Institute and he was re-elected for this position in 2002. The above mentioned Division of Cell Regulatory Systems of O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry was founded in 1969, and Prof. Kusen' Stepan became its first director.
The Institute of Cell Biology is a scientific institution well known in Ukraine and abroad, conducting first priority fundamental and applied research in the field of modern cell biology, molescular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics and biotechnology. At present the Institute employs near 104 specialists, including 10 doctors of sciences (Habilitation Doctors) and 17 candidates of sciences (PhDs). During the last 5 years our scientists have published 2 monographs, 183 scientific articles, including 60 articles in the international journals, obtained 3 patents of Ukraine and 1 patent of the European Patenting Agency. During the last 10 years specialists of our Institute completed 16 international scientific projects, as well as fulfilled series of domestic scheduled and competition scientific works.
