Emeritus Professor Mykola Bokarius Kharkіv Research Іnstitute of Forensic Sciences

Kharkiv Research Institute of Forensic Examinations named by Bocarius (KRIFE) is one of oldest state forensic-expert institutions of Ukraine and former USSR. Headed by the famous forensic doctor and criminalist Nikolay Sergeevich Bokarius the Cabinet of scientific-forensic examinations was based in Kharkov in 1923.

The main tasks of the institution are timely and qualitative fulfilment of research works, maximal satisfaction of requirements of law-enforcement bodies, courts, organizations, enterprises, establishments and citizens in various kinds of expert researches. More than 80 % of expert reports in KRIFE are being carried out for courts, public prosecutor's offices, Мinistry of Internal Affairs, Security Service of Ukraine and State Tax Administration. The priorities in work are given to the further improvement of traditional methods of expert researches, to the working out and introduction of new methods of expert researches.

Kharkіv RIFE has three departments in the cities of Sumy, Poltava and Sevastopol today. The research institutes of forensic examinations in Donetsk, the Crimea and Dnepropetrovsk were created on the basic of the departments of KRIFE, that testifies to high scientific potential of the institute.

The institute spend scientific-practical conferences, seminars, readings during last year. The institute also publishes books and the periodical issue of scientific-practical materials "Theory and Practice of Forensic Examination and Criminalistics". More than 200 works of the employees of KRIFE were published for the last two years.

The researches of the following kinds of forensic examinations as:
- criminalistics (handwritting, authorship, technical documents examination, ballistic, explosion-technical, phototechnical and portrait, examination of phono- and videorecording);
- examination of materials,substances and products;
- biological, engineering-technical, economic, commodity-research, autocommodity research examinations;
- examination of the protection of the rights of objects of the intellectual property;
- psychological, art and other examinations are being carried out in Kharkov RIFE.

The experts of a high class, including doctors and candidates of sciences - V.Y.Shepitko, V.Е.Konovalova, E.B.Simakova-Efremyan, S.М.Vul, А.S.Yachina, О.N.Моtin, А.А.Prokopenko, Т.Е.Balinyan, Е.А.Hlestkova, N.S.Korchan, А.D.Tarusin, V.N.Syryh, А.F.Dyachenko and others work in the institute.

The Kharkov RIFE named by Bokarius has become one of the leading expert institutions in the country for 80 years of its existence. Scientific potential, which was laid from the times of the foundation of the institute, demonstrates the ability to decide complex problems of forensic-expert assuring of justice in Ukraine today.

He was born on August 1, 1940.
He has finished the Saratov Juridical Institute named by Kursky on a speciality "Jurisprudence" in 1968.
He worked in the bodies of public prosecutor's office and internal affairs. He has a class grade - senior adviser of justice, special rank - colonel of militia.
He is the candidate of jurisprudence, senior lecturer of the chair of Criminal Law of National Academy of Low of Ukraine named by Yaroslav Mudry.
His scientific interests are: researches in the field of fire-technical, trackal examinations, procedural aspects of setting and carrying out of forensic examinations, questions of the theory and methodology of forensic examination.
He is the author of 38 scientific publications on the questions of theory, organization, procedural regulation of forensic-expert activity, methods and tactics of investigation of fires and etc.
