Ukrainian Research Institute for Agricultural Radiology (UIAR) is structural division of the National Agrarian University of Ukraine. Institute works on elaboration of the problems of farming industry conducted on territories contaminated with radionuclides. It is the leading research institute in agricultural radiology in Ukraine.

Principal research directions of the institute:
- Complex of methodical and experimental works on radiation monitoring the agrobiocenoses, including radiation monitoring the production in contaminated territories, and recommendations for the safe and rational agriculture in conditions of the radioactive contamination;
- Behavior of the Chernobyl release radionuclides in the Environment;
- Creation of the databases and decision support systems for the nuclear accidents;
- Modeling the dynamics and bioavailability of radionuclides depending on the physico-chemical forms of fallout and soil-climate conditions;
- Regularities of the radionuclides soil-to-plant transfer, prognosis of the agricultural production contamination, development and implementation of the measures aimed to decrease the production contamination;
- Influence on radioactivity accumulation in the agricultural plants of various types and doses of the fertilizers and meliorants and of their combinations, as well as of means of the soil treatment and technologies of application of chemicals;
- Development of systems of the forage production in conditions of contamination of the natural pastures and arable lands with cesium-137 and strontium-90;
- Assessment of efficiency of the countermeasures applied in agriculture for reduction of the radionuclides transfer into production;
- Regularities of radionuclides migration in the chain "soil - forage - animal organism - stock-breeding production";
- Stock-breeding in the contaminated territories;
- Development of means for the rational utilization and processing the agricultural production;
- Radiation-hygienic evaluation of the working conditions and development of the recommendations for the safe scientific-research works in the Exclusion zone and agricultural works in the contaminated territories;
- Rehabilitation of the contaminated areas, scientific support of the measures aimed to return the Exclusion zone in the economical utilization.
