State Scientific Center of Drugs (DNCLZ) is a state scientific organization, subordinated to the Ministry of Health Protection of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

During the years of its existence (1913-2000) DNCLZ developed and inculcated into industrial production more than 420 drugs, 317 of which, including the 97 original ones, are produced in Ukraine and the CIS states. As a whole it forms more than 20 % of the range of domestic drugs. Almost 75 % of drugs included in the standard methods of medical treatment in Ukraine are the developments of DNCLZ scientists. The scientific level of these developments is protected with 360 protective documents, including 108 patents of Ukraine and 53 patents of Russian Federation. The scientific skilled potential of DNCLZ consists of 170 scientific researchers including 11 doctors of sciences and 70 candidates of science, as well as 160 other specialists of medical, biological and technical trends, having higher special education.

BASIC AREAS OF CENTER ACTIVITY

1. The Center carries out the research works on drug creation and inculcation into industrial production.

2. The Center performs the functions of the leading organization in Ukraine on the following problems:
- creation of finished drugs including the dosage forms for children;
- developments and improvement of technological processes of finished drugs production;
- standardization, metrology and certification of vegetable medicinal raw materials, intermediate products, substances, standard excipients, enzyme samples, fat oils, finished drugs, quality control methods.

3. The Center performs the functions of a base organization in Ukraine regarding the norm-creating activity in the labour protection sphere.

4. The basic kinds of scientific, manufacturing and commercial activity of the Center are:
- search and study of structure of biologically active compounds of various kinds of natural raw materials or synthetic compounds; the creation of medical preparations and preparations for veterinary in various dosage forms on this base and inculcation of ones into industrial production and medical practice; the development of chemico-pharmaceutical excipients and inculcation of ones into industrial production;
- fundamental investigations in the field of development of experimentally-theoretical bases of new drugs creation in optimal dosage forms as well as the fundamental investigations on a matter of drug quality control;
- performing pre-clinical, toxicological and biopharmaceutical studies of biologically active substances, excipients, medicines, preparations for veterinary and others;
- development of progressive ecologically pure technological processes of active substances and drug dosage forms manufacturing;
- development of general criteria and approaches to drug standardization and quality control;
- examination of analytic normatively-technical documentation, materials on pre-clinical studies, documentation on labour protection and ecology of operating productions and projects on production of enterprises, that are built and reconstructed now;
- validation of technological processes of biologically active substances, excipients and drugs production and control methods;
- development of methodical bases in the field of creation and production of drugs and excipients in Ukraine;
- organization and maintenance of information systems;
- performing marketing, technical and economic and patent investigations carrying out;
- organization of advertising activity, promotion of scientific developments and drugs to a market;
- development of normatively-technical documentation on drug development and study, organization and functioning of industrial production;and harmonization of one in compliance with the international standards;
- rendering of engineering service on a matter of production certification and quality control services;
- performing works associated with the matters relating to hygiene, labour protection, ecology, industrial sanitation;
- works and services of fire-prevention destination;
- rendering services on training and raising the level of pharmaceutical industry worker's skill;
- carrying out the independent quality control of drugs registered in Ukraine with an issue of corresponding conclusions on quality;
- performing publishing activity;
- organization of conferences, seminars, symposiums and other similar arrangements;
- exhibitions organization and carrying out.
